This is the tomb of Galilao, the famous astronomer from Florence, who in 1615 at the age of 70 dared to state that the earth was not the center of the universe. In 1630 declaired a heretic by the Church for teaching "propositions contrary to the true sence and authority of the Holy Scriptures".
