Italy
21 Feb - 11 Mar 2007

We spent 2 nights just outside of Venice. Navigating your way across the city and its maze of bridges was more than I could handle. The few signs, pointing to the rail station or St. Mark's, have been masterfully altered by students to confuse the tourists, but getting lost in Venice was a pleasure. The only disappointing sight was litter on the ground from fliers advertising the opening of 4 McDonald's restaurants in Venice. The Italian youths, wanting to be American, are abandoning the mom and pop pizzerias and lining up for greasy burgers and fries. After seeing that I haven't eaten in a McDonald's since. It was so sad to see this treasure of Italy being invaded by American business.
